Urban Fitness Playground closes it doors….sorta

As some of you already know, the doors of the “Urban Fitness Playground” will close forever on Aug 28th.  I must admit that I’m feeling quite sentimental about the whole thing, as I’ve invested a lot of myself into the project, and shared countless hours of sweaty fun with you over the last (11) months.  Thank-you for all your support, and for all the good times!

Don’t worry….there’s a happy ending to the story.

Earlier this summer, I stumbled upon a property for lease while out for a run in the neighbourhood.  An abandoned, 80 year-old automotive garage, whose best years were clearly WELL behind it.  Less than a week later, I pulled up the garage door, flicked on about 20 sets of lights…. and fell in love at first sight.

5,000 square feet of space, 15 foot ceilings, concrete floors and walls…..Imagine what I could do with this place!  Imagine what WE could do in this place!  I had to have it.  After a month + of negotiations, fighting off competing offers from multiple bidders, I somehow managed to make a deal stick.

So - in early October we will be moving to a new home.  Located at 374 Dupont Street (Spadina & Dupont), it will be the epi-centre of all Private and Group Fitness programs on a year round basis.

Just to be clear… I’m building a GYM - not a big-box “Health Club” or some pretentious little “Fitness Boutique”.  That’s not what WE want.

WE try new things.  WE work hard.  WE have fun.  WE improve ourselves.  It’s a really simple “concept”.

Here are a few details, in case you’re wondering…

  • (4) mins. walk from Dupont Subway
  • Private Parking
  • Bathrooms and showers
  • Day use and private lockers
  • Towel service
  • Limited number of facility memberships (no more than 10)
  • Athletic Therapy room

There’s a lot of work to be done over the next five weeks and beyond - but with your help, I’m looking forward to creating an environment that we can all be proud of.  Stay tuned!    Thanks again for all your support!

M

AUGUST - Athletes of the Month

CONGRATULATIONS to the HYBRID Athletes of the Month!!

Mens Hybrid Elite
Matt “Fort” KNOX
Scouting Report:

This guy is the Cal Ripken Jr. of bootcamp!  He’s been in the program for (20) consecutive months and he’s still getting better.  This month, Matt reached a new milestone in his athletic career.  He managed to mount, balance, and stand on a 65cm stability ball - completely unassisted!  For those of you who have never witnessed this, it’s an impressive feat that requires a high level of proprioception, core strength, and static muscular endurance.  Matt is the first man in the history of the program to accomplish this.  Well done!

Womens Hybrid Elite
Michelle DUNKEL
Scouting Report:

What can I say - she’s the type of athlete that coaches love to work with.  She’s hungry to improve, demonstrates consistent work ethic, and doesn’t take herself too seriously.  Michelle Dunkel goes until coach says stop - EVERYTIME!…..and she hits like a MAN!  OH YEAH!!  (Harder than her brother Jason, no joke)

Womens Hybrid Crew
Jennifer “the EYE-talian Stallion” SANTOSUOSSO
Scouting Report:

“A spiritual Yogi at heart, Jen probably had no idea what she was in for when she decided to register for the program 3x week.  Yes - 3x week.  Many try, but few survive.  Not only has little Jenny survived, but she’s become a lean meaning fighting machine!  It’s been amazing to watch her transformation, and I”ve already recommended that she move up to Elite for the Fall cycle.  Good work Jen!

The Women will receive a $25 Gift Card from Lululemon and one ballot to the “Athlete of the Year” Contest!
Matt will receive a $25 Gift Card from Barton’s Bicycle Company, and one ballot to the “Athlete of the Year” Contest!
